Works begins for MINT POLO event 2011.

13th May 2011

This will be the 3rd year that ATB Sports Solutions have been involved with the Mint Polo event and each year it grows and grows. The event is held in the grounds of Hurlingham public park, Polo was first played at Hurlingham Park in 1874. In 1908 Hurlingham hosted the Olympic polo final (where England won a gold medal).

The Hurlingham Club was the headquarters of British polo for 65 years, and the name became synonymous with the sport.

But during the Second World War the polo ground was converted into allotments, with the last major polo event taking place in 1939.

Polo in the Park made a triumphant return to Hurlingham in 2009. ATB sports solutions have an important challenge of renovating the public park and constructing a World class Polo pitch.

"we are delighted once again to be working with the world polo team, I must admit this event is very demanding, to turn a public park into a world class polo pitch, is no easy task. The weather has been very dry recently and this year could be even more of a challenge. However with the sizable investment we have made in machinery and staff over the years, I am confident that we will produce, once again, a top playing surface for the polo." Rob Kendle - Director ATB Sports Solutions.

ATB sports solutions have already started the renovation to the sports pitches in the park. The first markings of the pitch have also gone in. ATB Sports Solutions recently invested in the New Fleet, Beam Rider. This made marking out the pitch a lot easier and quicker. www.beamrider.org.uk

The ATB mobile irrigation units will also be mobilised in the next few days.  These tanks have played a crucial role in irrigating the polo pitch in the past. Each tank holds approx 28 cubes of water and has all the pumps and electrics built into the unit. The tanks will be supplying to larger Irtec mobile rain guns, these are capable of outputting in excess of 8 cubic mtrs of water per hour at pressure of 6 Bar.

For the first time this year, the tanks will be fed from a new bore hole that has recently been installed into the park.
